MOK on a Tuesday

The boy and I stopped by The Man O' for lunch yesterday.  Original John and new John behind the bar.  Fullers ESB on tap, a damn good burger and wildlife out the window.  NISM?

Flanagan's pub

Having just spent a weekend at Pugdom North near Schroon lake, Counsel reports that Flanagan's pub right in the center of the village has a craft brew draft line. Nothing earth-shattering, but some decent beers with a decided emphasis on the local. Counsel and the Chief Engineer both had an UBU ale. They had a couple of Davidson's, a Magic Hat, and an Ommegang that was sadly tapped out.  Nods to the mainstream were Yeungling lager and Guinness.  The guy next to counsel was "enjoying" a Michelob Ultra. The place was full on a Saturday early afternoon, with many people enjoying pubbish food. Counsel did not eat so cannot comment on food quality.

The Thousand Islands appears to be quite devoid of craft beer. The motorboat crowd seems to be more about quantity over quality.  A 24 oz. can of Genny for 99 cents.  NISM?  So when we walked into The Riverside Cafe in Clayton and saw the knob for something called 1812 we had to give it a whirl.
1812 is made by the Sackets Harbor Brewing Co. in Sackets HarborNY about 30 miles from Clayton.  Its’ a nice clean amber, very reminiscent of Newcastle but with less malt, which makes it quite drinkable.
The Riverside Cafe has good food and riverside dining, right on the main channel looking out on Calumet Island.  Try the creamy Manhattan clam chowder. The friendly waitress told us it is the house specialty and they have been serving it for 21 years.
